About Me

Hello, my name is Katharine Bolanos, a dedicated and passionate first-year student in the Social Service Worker (SSWK) program at Georgian College. My journey into social services is deeply personal, rooted in overcoming the intergenerational trauma that has affected my family. These experiences, once a source of immense challenge, have transformed into a driving force behind my understanding and commitment to helping others.

My academic pursuit in social welfare focuses on addressing the systemic gaps impacting the elderly—a demographic often overlooked and underserved. I am deeply invested in understanding and rectifying the issues plaguing long-term care and retirement homes, driven by a desire to ensure dignity and quality of life for the aging population. Recognized for my eagerness to learn and a natural inclination to assist others, I was honoured to join the SSWK Program Advisory Committee (PAC) at Georgian College under the guidance of SSW coordinator Gisele Beausoleil. As someone who has lived experience with addiction, discrimination, and racism, I bring a unique perspective to the field. I aim to leverage my education and personal insights to contribute meaningfully to the social service sector, advocating for those in need and working towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
